The Indiana Department of Transportation has delayed plans to close Tipton Street at the Louisville & Indiana Railroad crossing between Indianapolis Avenue and East Street in Seymour.

The crossing — originally scheduled to close at 6 p.m. today — will now be closed from 6 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday.

The official detour includes U.S. 31, State Road 250 and State Road 11. Portions of State Road 250 are underwater, leading to the postponement, INDOT spokesman Harry Maginity said.

The closure is planned to allow rehabilitation operations to occur along the tracks. Crews plan to replace existing rubber panels with new concrete panels, which involves removing tracks and adjusting the elevation.
