Zoo’Opolis fundraiser to benefit county Special Olympics

Tribune staff reports

Special Olympics Indiana Jackson County is sponsoring a fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Harmony Park next to The Brooklyn Pizza Co. and The Seymour Brewing Co., 753 W. Second St., Seymour.

Zoo’Opolis Exotic Petting World will have exotic animals for people to see up close, Unlocking the Spectrum will offer rock painting for children and adults and there will be a silent auction, face painting, cornhole and live music.

The cost is $5 with all proceeds benefiting the local Special Olympics program, which was revived earlier this year to offer sports opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The county management team works year-round to do fundraising so the athletes don’t have to pay anything to participate in Special Olympics.

For the silent auction, some items will have a minimum bid written on the bid sheet.

If you cannot make it to the fundraiser, bids may be posted on an item on a post at facebook.com/jacksoncountyspecialolympics. Just put down the number of the item and your highest bid. A full list of auction items may be viewed on the Facebook page.

The auction will end at 8 p.m. Saturday, and winners will be announced by 8 p.m. Monday. If you do not respond to a message, text or phone call in a reasonable time, organizers will go down the line of bidders.

Also at the event, information will be available for individuals who want to be athletes or volunteers.
