Pie baking contest offered during Hayden festival

Hayden Historical Museum’s annual pie baking contest will be Sept. 1 during the Hayden Harvest Past event.

Contestants may bring one or more fruit pies to be judged to the museum kitchen located at 6715 W. County Road 20S any time from 9 to 11 a.m.

Judging will begin at 11 a.m., and the pies will be graded on appearance and taste. Awards will be given for first, second and third places.

Volunteer auctioneer Tom Lawson will auction the top three pies at 11:45 a.m. in the pavilion. All other pie entries will be sliced and offered in exchange for a freewill donation.

Proceeds will be used for the museum’s project of restoring former Indiana Gov. Edgar Whitcomb’s family home.

You can support this project in three different ways: Enter your baked pies in the contest, come and bid on the top three winning pies and/or make a generous donation when selecting a piece of pie from the serving counter.
