Steve and Jean Kiel of Seymour celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house for family and friends hosted by their children.

Steve and the former Jean Levagood were married Aug. 18, 1968, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour. The Rev. Otis Sauls officiated.

Jean is originally from Didsbury, Alberta, Canada, while Steve grew up in Seymour.

To celebrate, the couple enjoyed two weeks in Hawaii earlier this year. They met on the islands with Jean’s sister and her husband, as they too were married in 1968.

They are the parents of two children, Angie Kiel Hendrix of Long Beach, California, and Michael Kiel of Seymour. They have three grandchildren, Prader and Elleigh Kiel and Justice Hendrix.

Jean was an elementary teacher at Immanuel Lutheran School before becoming a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Steve retired from John C. Groub Co.

Both are active members of Zion Lutheran Church in Seymour.
