Melba Mae (Benter) Darlage, age 76, of Seymour, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Darlage was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, where she was a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years and a member of the Sauers Ladies Aid. She was employed with G.C. Murphy Co., Marion Kay Spices, and Rightway Fasteners. She was the Washington Township Trustee for numerous years and Secretary for Aid Association for Lutherans for more than 40 years. Melba was a member of the Sugar and Spice Home Economics club, and various Euchre clubs. She loved spending time with her family members, especially her grandchildren. She also loved baking cakes for all occasions, cooking and entertaining family and friends, playing the organ, and playing Scrabble and all card games.

Born on March 10, 1942, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Stuckwisch Benter, both of whom preceded her in death. On March 29, 1964, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, she married Paul N. Darlage and he survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include one son, Joseph (Mary) Darlage of Freetown; one daughter, Sharry (Jarrod) Rothrock of Seymour; one brother, Glenn (Carolyn) Benter of Seymour; three sisters: Marilyn Stuckwisch of Brownstown, Betty (Leslie) Tormoehlen of Brownstown, and Patty (John) Surenkamp of Seymour; sister-in-law, Wilma Benter of Brownstown; five grandchildren: Jesse Meek (fiance Adara Renn) of Freetown, Madison Darlage of Seymour, Macey Rothrock of Seymour, William Rothrock of Seymour, and Bella Rothrock of Seymour; one aunt, Bertha Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Melba was also preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Rothrock; one brother, Alvin Benter; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harry and Edna Darlage; and brothers-in-law: Willard Darlage, and Leland Stuckwisch.

Funeral services for Melba Mae (Benter) Darlage will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers, with Pastor Craig Muhlbach officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc. and from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers.

Interment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sauers Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Sauers Expansion Fund, and St. John’s Sauers Cemetery Fund.
