DEPUTY

Mr. James “Jim” Darrell Short, age 70, of Deputy entered this life on Dec. 5, 1947 in Harlan, Kentucky. He was the loving son of the late Roy and Loeta Mae Huff Short.

He lived in the Deputy area most all his life and graduated from Deputy High School in 1967.

On Nov. 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sandra Adell Feltner in Deputy.

This happy union was blessed with a son, James Lynn and a daughter, Roberta.

He retired from Cummins Engine as a machinist after 30 years of service, having worked at the Holset-Madison, Walesboro, Seymour and Columbus plants.

Jim held membership in the Diesel Workers Union in Columbus. He was a member of the Valley Settlement Old Regular Baptist Church.

He enjoyed traveling, collecting guns and playing the guitar.

He was a devoted husband, loving dad, papaw, brother and great-papaw and friend.

Jim died on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at 8:15 a.m. at his home near Deputy.

A loving family

Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra Adell Feltner Short of Deputy; his son, James Lynn Short and his daughter, Roberta Brown and her husband Bear, all of Deputy; his grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Ruthie, Jesse, and Kayla and her husband, Jake; his great-granddaughter, Loeta Mae Brown; his brother, Gary Short of Deputy, his loving sisters, Debbie Short of Deputy, Tammy Halcomb of Madison; his brothers-in-law, Archie Witt and Arlis Feltner and his wife, Sandy, all of Deputy, Lloyd Feltner and his wife, Veronika of St. Augustine, Florida, Marshall Feltner and his wife, Jeannie of Dupont, Indiana, Michael Feltner and his wife, Barb of Columbus, Curtis Feltner and Paul of Ontario, Canada and Curtis “Sonny” Carter of Madison, Paul Couch of Hazard, Kentucky, his sisters-in-law, Paula Noble and her husband, Woodrow, of Dice, Kentucky, Linda Doty and her husband, Dale of Henryville, Patty Wilson and her husband, Ken of Columbus and Jody Feltner of Deputy; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Short, his mother, Loeta Mae Huff Short, his brothers, Billy, Tommy, Rick, Jack, and David Wayne Short, his sisters, Betty Elaine Carter and Barbara Witt, his brothers-in-law, Lynn Feltner and Marlin Brock, his sisters- in-law, Janet L. Short, Peggy Couch and Shirley Peterson; his nephew, Michael Witt, who died March 30, 1972; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Brack and Ollie Mae Napier Feltner.

Funeral ceremony

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 5, 2018, at 2 p.m., by Pastor Mike Shuler at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Interment will follow in the Lick Branch Cemetery near Deputy.

Visitation

Friends may visit Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison.
