Backyard Garden Series Offered by Purdue Extension

Purdue Extension Jackson County will be offering four programs as part of the Backyard Garden Series.

All programs will be at 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Learning Center, 323 Dupont Drive, Seymour.

Registration will be due one week prior to the class date to the Purdue Extension Jackson County office at the courthouse at 111 S. Main St., Brownstown. Participants may register for as many sessions that are of interest to them. All sessions are free.

Programs include:

Aug.  6: The Fall Vegetable Garden: This session will cover the basics of planning, planting and growing a fall vegetable garden.

Aug. 13: Basic Lawncare for the Homeowner: This session will cover the basics of caring for the home lawn. Topics covered will include variety selection, seeding timing and rates, fertility and mowing.

Aug. 20: Pruning Landscape Plants: This session will cover the basics of landscape plant pruning. Learn the proper timing and techniques to keep your landscape healthy and beautiful.

Aug. 27: Basics of Growing Tree Fruit: This session will cover the growing and enjoying fruit trees in your backyard. This class will focus on apples and peaches. Topics will include pruning and insect and disease management.
