A Vallonia man arrested for stealing a vehicle and camper early Tuesday morning faces additional charges in connection with a second vehicle theft and arson in June, police report.

The new charges against Shaun Lee Gasaway, 38, stem from an incident involving a 2012 Ford F350 belonging to a Seymour business that was reported missing June 25, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Officer Adam Nicholson.

The Myers Sod Farm truck, which had been destroyed by fire, was found July 3 after images of it had been placed on the company’s Facebook page and shared more than 1,200 times by Facebook users.

During the investigation, police said they learned Gasaway had been employed at Myers Sod Farm in 2017, Nicholson said.

An employee also saw and spoke with Gasaway the evening of the theft of the truck, Nicholson said.

After the interview, Gasaway was arrested on a Level 4 felony for arson and Level 6 felony auto theft.

Jackson County Officers Rick Meyer, Jesse Hutchinson, Mitch Ray and J.L. McElfresh assisted with the investigation.

On Tuesday, Gasaway was arrested on Level 6 felony charges of theft and auto theft in connection with an investigation into the theft of a vehicle and a camper in Freetown.

Gasaway was intoxicated at the time of his arrest in Brownstown about seven hours after Tuesday’s investigation began, Nicholson said.

He said investigators believe Gasaway dumped a damaged camper on the property of a Freetown resident, prompting police to investigate the incident.

Police believe the damage to the camper occurred after Gasaway stole it.

He remains in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.
