Recovery rally

Thumbs-up to Jason and Janet Davis of Seymour and Susan Tormoehlen for organizing the first Seeking Hope Recovery Rally on June 30 in Seymour. More than 300 people braved the heat to take part in the event, designed to fight back against drug and/or alcohol addiction by bringing together people, families and the community in a fun and positive way. Several local churches and pastors also supported the first of what will hopefully be many such events.

Earning a degree

Thumbs-up to Brownstown Central FFA chapter members, Matthew Stuckwisch, Dakota Trowbridge, Alison Deaton and Megan Kuhlman who all received their State Degrees during the June 18-21 state convention in Indianapolis. A related thumbs-up to Abby Stuckwisch, who placed third in the state in Agricultural Business Management Demonstration; Emma Winks, who placed third in the state in Natural Resource Demonstration; and Jacob Rorig, who placed second in the state in Equine Science Proficiency.

Champs

Thumbs-up to Olivia Fish, a student at Immanuel Lutheran School, and a member of the Asics KIVA 14  volleyball squad. That team recently won the 45th annual AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports and Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Fish was the only Indiana player on the Louisville-based travel volleyball squad that went 12-0 over a four-day span to be crowned 14 Open champions.

A helping hand

Thumbs-up to the Driftwood Township Volunteer Fire Dept. for donating food to the Brownstown Senior Center. The food was raised during the department’s car show and concert featuring Clayton Anderson in June.

A similar thumbs-up to the three ladies who work at Cortland Diner-deli that are very kind and helpful. To Kate, Lindsey and Sammie a big “Thank you.” They made phone calls for us; gave us ice water; and talked so kind to us. So there are still kind people around.

From two old people, age 94 and 84. (We had car trouble)
