WHITING

Larry E. Adams, 71, of Whiting, Indiana, left his earthly home at his son’s home in Crothersville, IN, Thursday, July 5th, 2018 at 11:55 PM in the same way as he lived his life, surrounded by people who loved him. Holding his and each other’s hands, the family prayed him into Heaven as he passed.

Larry was a loving Dad, grandpa, uncle, brother and friend. To all who knew his sharp wit, giving heart and “bendable” ear, he will be missed more than words can express.

He was an avid pool player, Harley rider, music aficionado, sports enthusiast, guitar player and social butterfly, who enjoyed time with family and friends.

Born in Sullivan, Indiana on April 3, 1947, he was the son of Marjorie (Plummer) and Kenneth Adams; both preceded him in death.

Larry attended grade school and high school in Whiting and worked as a pinsetter, the person who manually reset pins at the bowling alley, in the basement of the Whiting Community Center during high school. After graduating in 1965, Larry was the assistant manager at the old JJ Newberry’s in Whiting, Indiana. Because of his work ethic and management acumen, he was transferred, with his newlywed wife (Carol Walters) Adams and newborn son, to Macomb, Illinois to help run the local JJ Newberry’s. Larry started a new job in 1967, where he spent most of his career working in the computer room and later a foreman, of Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Youngstown Steel, McLaughlin Steel LTV Steel, where he was the star softball player of the company team. In those days, Larry served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher and Treasurer at First Church of Christ in Whiting, Indiana and also was known to preach from the pulpit when the preacher was absent. Larry enjoyed time bowling, golfing, coaching, watching and encouraging his kid’s sports teams. He was a trailblazer in the “social media” sharing trend when he led a Citizens Band Club of CB radio members who kept in touch and shared life events on the 27 MHz band of short-distance radio. In recent years, retirement life from the steal mill was too slow paced for him, so he took on a job in security at the casino, a perfect job to meet people, chat and tell people what to do.

He is survived by his three children: Michael E. Adams (Tory Kennedy) of Dunedin, Florida, Mark E. (Leslie) Adams of Crothersville, Indiana, and Buffy (Krista) Carlson-Adams of Crown Point, Indiana; four grandchildren who reside in Crothersville, Indiana: Conner Adams, 20, Parker Adams, 19, Harper, 14, and Tucker, 13; Sister: Linda (Patrick) Kendall of Jasper, Indiana; two nephews of Jasper, Indiana: Scott (Kim) Kendall and Brad Kendall; Four grand-puppies: Noodle and Ivy of Dunedin, Walter of Crothersville and Murphy of Crown Point, Indiana.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM at Fife Funeral Home, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd, East Chicago, IN 46312 at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday, July 10th from 4 PM-8 PM.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana at www.bgcgreaternwi.org or to Kindred Hospice, 391 Quartermaster Ct., Jeffersonville, IN 47130. Online condolences may be made online thru www.adamsfuneralhomeonline.com.
