Superheroes get their day at Head Start

Jackson County Head Start participated in Superhero Day this spring, honoring real heroes in children’s lives.

“A hero can be anyone — man, woman, grandma, grandpa, a community member or anyone interested in volunteering and spending time with the children,” said Mindy Velez, Human Services Inc. site supervisor in Jackson County. Human Services oversees the Head Start preschool program.

There also are real live superheroes in the community, including police officers, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel.

On April 26, students and their families were invited to spend the day at Head Start honoring heroes. Several local superheroes, including EMS, firefighters and Seymour High School football players, attended to read, play and have fun with the children on the playground.
