Jackson County under severe thunderstorm warning, damage reported

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Jackson County.

High winds have been reported in Brownstown.

A tree has fallen down on a power line on High Street in Brownstown and a tree has fallen on a home on Laurel Street in Seymour, according to police scanner communication.

The 500 block of South 135 in Vallonia near Driftwood Christian Church is closed as police remove a tree that feel across the roadway and on a power line.

Those are just a few examples of trees falling over power lines that police are responding to after a storm that brought large gusts of wind and rain.

Jackson County REMC has reported 1,679 power outages in the western part of Jackson County, according to its website. Duke Energy has reported 1,481 outages, according to its website.

Both companies are in the process of assessing damage.

Jackson County REMC has encouraged customers to report outages by using the SmartHub App if they don’t want to wait on the phone. Phone lines are busy because of the volume of calls, according to the company’s Facebook page.
