CROTHERSVILLE

James “Elco” H. Cockerham, 76, of Crothersville, IN, passed away at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, IN.

Born September 21, 1941 in Seymour, IN, he was the son of Henry and Flora (Patten) Cockerham, who are both deceased.

Jim was a 1959 Shields High School graduate and attended I.U.P.U.I.

On February 8, 1972 in Greenville, TN, he married Phyllis Josephine (Wade) Cockerham who passed away on October 5, 2011.

Jim served in the Army National Guard from 1960-1964 and was a retired truck driver, where he worked for Summit Trucking. He had a passion for dirt track racing and owned several race cars with his sons. He enjoyed auctions & garage sales and loved Big Red. Jim was a member of Crothersville Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include six sons, Don (Julie) Couch of Seymour, IN, Steve (Missy) Couch of Seymour, IN, Darrell (Tammy) Couch of Seymour, IN, Shannon (Bridget Caudill) Cockerham of Clairmont, NC, Jason (Missy) Cockerham of Crothersville, IN, Scott Cockerham of North Vernon, IN; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Corey) Smith of Seymour, IN, Andrew (Tonja) Couch of Seymour, IN, Jonathan Couch of Seymour, IN, Haley Couch of Seymour, IN, Derek Couch of Seymour, IN, Zach Couch of Seymour, IN, Kayse (Jacob) Collins of Little York, IN, Kayla (Andrew) Lynn of Brownstown, IN, Gunner Cockerham of Crothersville, IN; and 9 great-grandchildren. He adored his four legged friends, Sandy, Squeaky, & Buddy.

He was also preceded in death by 1 daughter, Jamie Cockerham; 3 brothers, Walter, Bob, and Charlie Cockerham.

Pastor Mark Wooten will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00 PM on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville.

Donations in honor of Jim may be made to Red Sky Rescue c/o the funeral home.
