Two Jackson County residents were arrested Wednesday morning on drug and auto theft charges in eastern Jackson County.

Jeremy G. Cockerham, 38, of Norman and Brook B. Neidige, 19, of Seymour were arrested after Indiana State Police discovered the white 1991 GMC that Cockerham was driving was stolen, according to a press release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post.

Eighty-eight grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine also were found concealed in Neidige’s clothing, Wheeles said.

The pair and the vehicle were searched after a traffic stop initiated by Trooper Seth Davidson at 8 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 50 near County Avenue just east of Seymour.

A check of the vehicle’s registration showed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Jennings County on April 9.

Cockerham was charged with Level 6 felonies of auto theft and possession of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 9:33 a.m. and was being held without bond pending an initial hearing.

Neidige was charged with a Level 3 felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespassing. She was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 10:11 a.m. and also was being held without bond pending her initial hearing.

A Level 3 felony carries a sentence between three and 16 years in prison if convicted, and a Level 6 felony carries a sentence of six months to two-and-a-half years upon conviction.

Davidson was assisted by Trooper Randel Miller and Seymour Police Department officers Craig Owens and Mike Payne.
