A Seymour man was arrested and charged with attempted murder early Saturday morning.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident that led to the arrest of Steven Kirschbaum, 50, of Seymour.

Detectives were collecting evidence and conducting interviews Saturday.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours at a residence in the 2600 block of North State Road 11, near the Freeman Field Recreational Facility.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers said Kirschbaum fired a weapon outside before entering a garage on the property. Carothers said the garage had been converted into housing, where Kirschbaum was staying.

After firing the weapon, Kirschbaum entered the garage and fired again and bullets exited the garage wall, went through the wall of the home and through a television.

Carothers said a woman was watching television when the rounds came through the television.

Kirschbaum was also charged with intimidation, pointing a firearm and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

Kirschbaum was booked into Jackson County Jail at 5:44 a.m. without bond.

This is the second shooting incident in the city this week as Seymour police continue to investigate a shooting Monday outside R.R. Donnelley.
