Cougars best Eagles

OSGOOD — Trinity Lutheran mustered eight hits to defeat Jac-Cen-Del 8-4 on Friday.

The Cougars (5-5-1) led 1-0 after one inning before adding four runs in the top of the third.

Trinity scored one run in the fourth inning, and two in the seventh, and the Eagles didn’t come within three runs of the Cougars the rest of the way.

Jack Marksberry and Jacob Crockett each had two hits for the Cougars.

Jacob VonDielingen didn’t give up a hit in two innings of work, Tyler Goecker went 2.1 innings on the mound and Reid Kruse held on for the Trinity win.

The Cougars will play a doubleheader at Indianapolis Lutheran today.

TRACK AND FIELD

Owls finish runners-up at invite

SHELBYVILLE — Seymour’s boys and girls track and field teams finished second behind Cathedral at the Shelbyville Invitational on Thursday.

In the boys’ competition, Cathedral scored 168 points, followed by; Seymour (82.5), Cardinal Ritter (79.5), Jennings County (63), Shelbyville (62.5), Triton Central (21.5) and Fortune Academy (16).

Lance Roark won the long jump for the Owls by leaping 21-feet, 3-inches.

Caleb Madden threw 44-2 1/2 for runner-up in the shot put and Haden Metttert was third with a throw of 43-8 3/4. Madden was also third in the discus (139-9).

Max Otte was third in the high jump at 5-8.

Trent Hohenstreiter’s time of 4-minutes, 42-seconds was good for third in the 1,600 while teammate Jacob Voss finished right behind in 4:47.15.

In the girls’ meet, Cathedral led all teams with 114 points. Seymour (110), Jennings County (106), Shelbyville (96), Cardinal Ritter (56) and Triton Central (9) followed.

Freshman Lara Skaggs was champion in the long jump (15-7 1/2) and 100 hurdles (17.19) for SHS.

Avery DeHart’s clear of 9-0 was runner-up in the pole vault and third in the 100 hurdles (18.06).

Ashton Chase finished second in the 1,600 (5:17.91), Abby Voss was third in the 800 (2:32.60) and the Owls’ 4×400 relay team were runners-up (4:25.27).

SOFTBALL

Cougars beat sectional foe

CAMPBELLSBURG — Trinity Lutheran collected 13 hits in a 6-2 victory over West Washington on Thursday.

The Cougars (4-3) led 5-1 after two innings — scoring four runs in the second — and never looked back.

Jodi Goecker had three hits and Morgan Gabbard, Sami Newmister, Jaryn Holtsclaw and Savannah Harweger each totaled two.

Hannah Deaton earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete game.

Trinity will host a doubleheader with Springs Valley today.
