A 14-year-old Seymour youth has been selected to participate in the 2018 Miss Jr. Teen pageant April 15 at Avon High School on the west side of Indianapolis.

Kaylynn Zarate Lara, the daughter of Sergio Zarate Lara and Maribel Lara Salinas of Seymour, submitted an application and participated in her interview session conducted by this year’s pageant coordinator.

The Miss Jr. Teen division is one of four divisions open. The participants compete in modeling routines, which include casual wear and formal wear. Contestants also display their personality and interviewing skills while interviewing with the judging panel.

Winners receive a share of the prizes and gifts worth thousands of dollars. The winner also will participate in a national competition in Orlando, Florida, where more than $30,000 in prizes and awards will be presented, and each winner receives an expense-paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando.
