Ernest Dean Pittman, 77, of Elizabethtown, passed from this life at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Pittman was born in Columbus, Indiana, November 22, 1940, the son of Ernest R. and Bernice L. Merriman Pittman. He married Laura P. Cain in Columbus, October 29, 1961.

Mr. Pittman retired from Arvin Industries in 2005 after 44 years of service.

Mr. Pittman was a member the National Redneck Archery Club. An outdoorsman, Mr. Pittman enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, woodworking, and doing carpentry work. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Pittman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laura; children, Tim (Belinda) Pittman of North Vernon and Deanna Pittman of Elizabethtown; sisters, Cheryl (Harry) Taylor of Columbus and Carol Diane (Ronald) McDaniel of Seymour; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Ernest “Pittman” Dean.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street in Columbus. A formal funeral service is not planned.

In keeping with Mr. Pittman’s wishes, cremation will take place following the visitation.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
