New Albany dominates for regional win

New Albany jumped on top of Center Grove 16-3 midway through the first period and remained in front the rest of the way for a 69-56 win in the championship game of the Seymour Class 4A Regional in front of 8,000 people in the Lloyd E. Scott Gymnasium on Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (25-1) held a 39-28 lead at the half before stretching the lead to 52-32 in the third period, and the closest the Trojans could get after that was eight points.

Mr. Basketball candidate Romeo Langford topped the Bulldogs with 39 points on nine 2-pointers, two 3s and 15 of 18 free throws. Sean East added 13.

Trayce Jackson-Davis topped the Trojans (20-7) with 24 points.

Earlier in the day, New Albany advanced to the finals with a 65-45 win against Bloomington South as Langford scored 28.

Center Grove topped Evansville north 69-44, with Jackson-Davis scoring 26.

New Albany will play Warren Central at Seymour in the semistate on Saturday at 3 p.m. Warren topped Terre Haute South 83-48 in the Southport Regional finals. Barr-Reeve will also play Morristown at 1 p.m. at Seymour.

In other regional finals, Evansville Bosse whipped Silver Creek 81-55 in the Class 3A Southridge Regional, Forest Park topped Austin 70-49 in the Class 2A Paoli Regional, and Barr-Reeve tipped Christian Academy 48-47 in the 1A finals at Loogootee. Christian Academy advanced with a 64-48 win against Edinburgh.
