Fire reported at store south of Crothersville

Firefighters from several departments spent about an hour Tuesday helping put out a fire at a tire store south of Crothersville.

The fire produced clouds of smoke that could be seen for miles and U.S. 31 was briefly closed as firefighters put out the fire at Lee’s Tires.

No injuries were reported in the fire, reported at 12:55 p.m., and the fire was contained at about 2:10 p.m., according to Duane Davis, director of the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency.

Crothersville-Vernon Township Fire Department volunteers responded to the fire and were assisted by Jackson-Washington Volunteer Fire Department and firefighters from several departments in Scott County responded with tankers to help haul water.
