Two flown from wreck on Interstate 65 north of Seymour

UPDATED 12:12 p.m.: Two people have been flown from the scene of a personal-injury wreck in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65, north of Seymour, police report.

Multiple others have been taken by ambulance from the scene to local hospitals.

The wreck involved a Ford Explorer that blew a tire, left the east side of the interstate, went down an embankment, overturned multiple times and came to a rest on its roof in a field, said Jackson County Officer Scott Davis.

Davis, who is assisting state police, said several people sitting in the backseat of the vehicle seat were ejected.

The front seat passenger also had been to be extricated from the vehicle.

The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed but have since reopened, Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said

Northbound Interstate 65 is closed at U.S. 50 in Seymour at this time because of a serious crash, police report.

Three medical helicopters have been called to the scene of the crash near the 55½-mile-marker, according to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post,  said there also is a property-damage wreck in the southbound lanes of the interstate near the 56-mile-marker.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the interstate in Jackson County, Wheeles said.
