Classes planned at arts center

Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is offering several classes centered around recycled crafts for adults 15 and older from 1 to 4 p.m. at the center, 2001 N. Ewing St., Seymour.

The first class will be Plarn, Tarn, Darn — Making Yarn from T-shirts and Plastic Bags on Sunday. In this class, participants will learn how to make yarn by stripping old T-shirts and plastic shopping bags. They will weave a plastic place mat and a small round rug. Supplies you will need to bring along will include four or five clean old T-shirts, preferably without any printing on the main section of the shirt, in colors you would like to have in your rug, 10 to 12 plastic shopping bags and scissors for fabric and nonfabric uses. The instructor will supply other needs.

The second class will be But I Love That Cardigan … Giving New Life to Worn-Out Sweaters on Feb. 18. In this class, participants will learn how to give an old favorite a new life. Learn how to felt a wool sweater to create a thick fabric. You will be making a flower brooch and smittens (sweater mittens). Knowledge of hand sewing is helpful but not required.

The third class will be Clean Out Your Fridge — Happy Little Jar Crafts on Feb. 25. In this class, participants will learn techniques for reusing food jars that usually end up in the recycling bin. You will make a springy snow globe and a shabby chic decourpaged tea light holder. Supplies you will need to bring will include one 15 oz. or large jar with a lid, such as a salsa or pickle jar, and scissors. The instructor will supply other needs.

The cost for each class is $20, and there is a class size limit of 10.
