Four people including three state highway workers sustained injuries in a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 65 near Crothersville, police report.

The incident began when a 2013 Nissan being driven north by David Cutrone, 29, of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, left the road, went onto the shoulder and hit a guardrail, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police.

The passenger car then hit the rear of a parked 2016 Ford INDOT truck containing the driver, Cody Hobbs, 24, of Scottsburg and Darren Jones, 49, of Deputy, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, said Wheeles, who is public information officer for the Versailles Post.

Hobbs, Jones and a third state worker, Freddie Taylor, 26, of Scottsburg, who was outside the vehicle at the time, sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Service before being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for further treatment. The state workers had been removing debris from along interstate at the time of the wreck, reported at 10 a.m., Wheeles said.

Cutrone had to be cut from his vehicle by firefighters with Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department and Seymour Fire Department. He also was treated by ambulance personnel before being taken to Schneck with “serious but non-life threatening injuries,” Wheeles said.

The right lane of the interstate was closed for about two hours to allow for an investigation into the wreck and cleanup.

Others assisting with traffic control and the cleanup included officers with Crothersville Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, INDOT and Howard’s Wrecker Service.

The wreck was the first of two on Tuesday involving state highway workers in the Versailles District, Wheeles said.

Five people, including three INDOT workers, suffered minor injuries in a wreck reported at noon at State Road 101 at Interstate 74 in Ripley County, he said.
