A 26-year-old man faces at least four criminal charges related to a wreck Friday north of Seymour that left his son hospitalized in an Indianapolis hospital with abdominal injuries, police report.

Bonifilio Garcia Jimenez of Seymour was booked into the Jackson County Jail at 11:24 p.m. Friday on charges of neglect of a dependent causing injury, a Level 5 felony, and operating while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle, a Level 6 felony. He also faces misdemeanor charges of criminal recklessness and operating while never having received a driver’s license.

Jimenez’s arrest stems from an incident that occurred as he drove a 2007 Toyota Yaris north on State Road 11, north of Redding Road, said Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Officer Scott Davis.

Davis said Jimenez drove his vehicle off of the east side of the road and down an embankment before hitting a concrete abutment. The vehicle then went over the embankment and landed right side up in a ditch, Davis said.

Jimenez’s 3-year-old son was treated at the scene by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services personnel before being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Davis said.

The child later was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health with abdominal injuries he sustained because he was not restrained properly in the back seat of the vehicle, Davis said.

Jimenez, who was being held without bond at the jail in Brownstown, was treated at the scene for a possible head injury and taken to Schneck Medical Center.

Davis was assisted by county officers Brad Barker and Jesse Hutchinson, officers with the Seymour Police Department and personnel with the Seymour Fire Department.
