Shenanigans ensue on community theater stage

Laugh your way across the USA as Actors Community Theater of Seymour presents the stage comedy “Mama Won’t Fly.”

The show will be staged Sept. 8, 9, 15 and 16 at the theater in Suite 208 at the Shops at Seymour, 357 Tanger Blvd.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the door, in advance at or by calling or texting 812-498-2127.

The show, directed by Betty Baute of Brownstown, follows a frustrated Savannah Honeycutt as she sets out to fly her mother, Norleen Sprunt, from Alabama to California to attend the wedding of Norleen’s son, Walker. Just as they prepare to leave, “Mama” announces that she won’t fly. Instead, they will drive her old Buick cross-country.

The plot thickens when the bride-to-be, Hayley Quinn, shows up on Norleen’s doorstep to join the expedition so she can get to know her future in-laws.

The trio encounter nearly two dozen kooky characters, including the curator of a bra museum and several of Norleen’s eccentric west Texas relatives, as they wind their way across the southwest.

Cast members are Kat Baute of Medora as Savannah, Robin Nolan of Franklin as Norleen and Elyse McGill of Seymour as Hayley. Playing multiple characters are LindaJo Howard of Salem, Vickey Oliphant of Seymour, Stacy Wyatt of Greenwood, Greg Simons of Columbus, Jeremy Kinnett of Seymour and Cory Watson of Medora.

“Mama Won’t Fly” is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten and is being presented through special arrangements with Dramatists Play Service Inc. and with assistance from the Indiana Arts Commission, Columbus Area Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts.
