Lucas named to all-tourney team

OXFORD, Ohio

With its third win in less than 24 hours, Western Kentucky Volleyball took home the Miami (OH) Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational crown on Saturday.

Sydney Engle took home Tournament MVP honors while Rachel Anderson and Seymour’s Jessica Lucas were also named to the weekend All-Tournament Team.

Facilitating the offense to a .304 hitting percentage, Lucas tallied 37 assists across the morning sweep. She added nine digs, five kills, two blocks and an ace to fill the stat sheet.

Through three matches, Lucas averaged a double double at 35.3 assists per match and 10 digs per match.

The Lady toppers are currently ranked No. 24 in the AVCA Coaches rankings for Division I volleyball.

Werskey to coach at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa

Seymour’s Eric Werskey was named assistant track and field coach at the University of Iowa on Monday.

Werskey will lead the throws program, joining the UI staff after spending the last two seasons at California State University, Northridge.

In 2016, Werskey coached two conference champions in the discus, and helped guide three athletes to top three finishes in the shot put.

Werskey graduated from Auburn in 2011, and trained with some of the world’s top throwers at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California while also helping develop throwers.

As an undergrad at Auburn and Indiana, Werskey was a three-time All-American in the shot put.
