James Russell Phegley, 70, of Columbus, died at 3:53 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Richard A Roudebush V.A. Medical Center in Indianapolis.

Jim retired from Cummins after working over 34 years as a machinist. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged after his service. He enjoyed waterskiing and basketball, especially I.U. basketball. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 4205 Jonathan Moore Pike-Columbus with Chris Gardner officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 1925 and V.F.W. Post 89 at 4:00 p.m. at Freetown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Freetown Cemetery Association.

Jim was born on October 18, 1946 in Seymour, Indiana to the late Russell and Elvina Weekley Phegley.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sandra, children; Dawn (Chris) Gardner of Seattle, WA., Leticia Miller of Indianapolis, Randy (Jessica) Phegley of Columbus, grandchildren; Xixi and Jing Gardner, Hanna Wilson, Cash Miller, Grace, Gavin, Alexandra “Reese Cup”, sister, Betty (Roger) Fox of Columbus, brother, Rick (Monique) Phegley of Freetown, several nieces and nephews.
