Norma Jean Auffenberg, 87, of Seymour, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at her home. Jean was born on December 29, 1929, in Seymour, the daughter of George Henry and Ella Mary (Hackman) Kriete, both of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Shields High School in 1947. Jean married Raymond Erwin Auffenberg on September 18, 1947 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown. He preceded her in death May 29, 1987. Jean began working at Central Pharmaceuticals while in high school and continued there until 1956.
After the birth of their children, she worked at the Seymour Tribune for 2 years. In 1969 she started work for the Seymour Community Schools and retired in 1994 as Food Service Director.
Jean was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Seymour, where she served in the Ladies Aid #3. She was also a member of Pine Ridge Extension Club. Jean loved reading, yard work and sewing.
She is survived by her children, daughter, Susan L. Auffenberg and son, David R. (Carla) Auffenberg; three grandsons, Andrew, Brian and Eric Auffenberg and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, 2 sisters, Elsie Meahl and Helen Kriete and 2 brothers, Harold and Howard Kriete preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg officiating at Immanual Lutheran Church in Seymour. Visitation will held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 23 at Burkholder Funeral Chapel and on Monday from 9:30 until time of service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Lutheran Cemetery.
