Events planned at Hardin Ridge area

A program about water safety is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area, just off State Road 446 in eastern Monroe County.

Participants in “Water Safety Bingo” learn about water safety, win great prizes and have fun at the shelter house at Hardin Ridge, according to a news release from Teena Ligman. Ligman is public affairs specialist with the Wayne and Hoosier national forests.

The event is free, although a gate fee of $5 per vehicle is charged for admission to the recreation area. While at Hardin Ridge, visitors can picnic, swim at the beach and hike the trails.

Also at 2 p.m. Aug. 5, Smokey’s birthday party will be celebrated at the Hardin Ridge. There will be cake, and children will be able to make their own sail boats and then participate in a sail boat regatta. Smokey also will be on hand to present Junior Forest Ranger awards to the kids who have completed their books.
