A two-vehicle wreck with a fatality was reported just after noon today.

The wreck involving a box truck and a vehicle occurred just west of Brownstown on U.S. 50 before the bridge that goes over the East Fork White River.

A Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officer reported one person in the vehicle has died as a result of the wreck. That person’s name is not yet available.

The driver of the box truck was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour for evaluation.

The box truck wound up going off the north side of the roadway and into floodwaters from the river, which has spilled out of its banks after recent rain events.

Police initially had both lanes of U.S. 50 blocked, but around 12:40 p.m., they were opening one lane.
