Have a bang-up time at Fourth festivities

Several activities are planned in the area to celebrate Independence Day.

In Seymour, the annual Music in the Park from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Shields Park will feature Jordan Richart, Molly Hayes and Lela Hendley.

Bring lawn chairs, coolers and blankets and enjoy an afternoon of free entertainment, courtesy of the Seymour Parks and Recreation Department and This Old Guitar Music Store. The concession stand at Shields Park Pool also will be open.

Also that day, from noon to 5 p.m., there will be half-price admission for the afternoon session at Shields Park Pool. The pool will not reopen for the evening session, but a free family swim night will be Wednesday.

Then at 10 p.m. Tuesday, the Kremers Urban Pharmaceuticals fireworks display at Freeman Field is set to begin. The show will be synchronized to music, complements of WJAA Radio 96.3. The WJAA Cool Bus also be on location throughout the evening.

The music and fireworks events both are free.

Alcoholic beverages and private fireworks are prohibited.

In Brownstown, a fireworks show is planned for Saturday night at Brownstown Speedway as part of the third annual Born Free 40 for super late models.

At 10 p.m. Monday, Columbus Regional Health will present QMIX Musical Fireworks 28, “Playin’ with Fire,” at Columbus Municipal Airport.

The family fun begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Ivy Tech Community College parking lot with games, face painting for the kids, vendors and food. Easterling Entertainment will provide a free magic show at 6 p.m. to get the crowd warmed up for the patriotic and choreographed-to-music fireworks display.

Grab a blanket or lawn chair and get to the airport early to claim your spot. Bring a portable radio and tune it to QMIX 107.3 for updates before and after and music during the show, sponsored by Faurecia.
