VERNON
Florence Helen Collins, 105, of Vernon, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.
Born on March 21, 1912, in Ludlow, Kentucky, she was the daughter of James S. and Helen De Young Creager. On Nov. 18, 1934, in Ludlow, she married Theodore H. Collins, who preceded her in death May 18, 1976.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a phone operator at Neatherland Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1931-34. She enjoyed reading the newspaper, following politics and flowers.
Survivors include her son, Charles (Anita) Collins of North Vernon; daughter, Norma Jean (James) Banks of North Vernon; grandchildren, Tammy (Bruce) Arnold of Palmyra, Virginia, Cheryl (Jay) Nicely of Lakeland, Florida, Trent (Debbie) Collins, Tory (Lisa) Collins and Jennifer (Greg) Laman, all of North Vernon, and Jonella (Mitchell) Salyers of Franklin; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Albert S. Collins and Teddy Lee Collins; grandson, Jack Edward Collins; granddaughter, Teresa Lynn Mozingo; brothers, James and Albert Creager and sisters, Evelyn Stewart, Norma Lands and Marion Kesting.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Marvin Sweet officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
