Two Medora men die in crash early Saturday

The cause of a wreck that left two Jackson County men dead early Saturday morning in Washington County remains under investigation, police report.

William O. Spence III, 42, of Medora and a passenger in the vehicle he was driving, Homer D. Delph, 36, also of Medora, were pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash at Sparksville Road and Sparksville Crossing, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said Spence was driving south in a 1966 Chevrolet Malibu Super Sport on Sparksville Crossing when he traveled through the T-intersection at Sparksville Road and hit an earthen embankment.

Neither Spence nor Delph were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck, which was reported at 5:14 a.m. Saturday, according to Sheriff Roger Newlon’s report.

Newlon was assisted by Chief Deputy Brent Miller, Deputy Lucas Gray and Officer Mike Voelz.

Others assisting with the wreck and investigation include officers with Salem Police Department and personnel with Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department and Brown/Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department, Washington Emergency Medical Services and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
