Portion of State Road 250 to be chip sealed early next week

The Indiana Department of Transportation has rescheduled maintenance crews to lay chip seal surface materials along 20 lane miles of State Road 250 on Monday and Tuesday.

This pavement preservation project, which extends from State Road 3 in Jennings County to a pavement break 0.34 miles east of Interstate 65 in Jackson County, has been delayed by heavy rains.

Beginning Monday morning, INDOT will apply liquid asphalt topped by aggregate chips from a starting point east of I-65 to Paris Crossing. On Tuesday, the lane in the reverse route will be treated with asphalt and stone.

This operation will seal the State Road 250 surface pavement, providing protection from moisture intrusion and ultraviolet ray degradation. The asphalt chips restore an acceptable coefficient of friction for driver safety.

A fog seal will be applied to the route at a later date.
