Janice “Jan” E. Roberts Mears, 76, of Auburn passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne.
Born July 16, 1940, in Plainfield, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Raymond and Evelyn Roberts, both of whom preceded her in death. On Jan. 1, 1961, she married Howard “Bud” Mears, sharing 23 years together.
Jan lived in Seymour from 1963 to 1985. She then moved to the Fort Wayne area until her passing.
She worked at DeKalb Hospital as a pharmacy technician and enjoyed her coworkers and all of her customers, whether regulars or just one-time visitors. She was well-liked by all who met her. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s events. She rarely missed a ballgame and always came dressed in her spirit wear.
Jan loved playing bridge and enjoyed socializing with her lady card friends. She loved her two dogs, Maggie and Molly, often taking them on several walks a day all snazzy in their matching dog coats. She was always well-prepared with a pocket of dog treats to reward them for good behavior. They definitely helped keep her company.
Survivors include her four children, Cindy (Drew) Noye, Sharon Townsend, Gary (Loli) Mears and Kathy (Dwayne) Hohenstreiter; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clinton “Butch” Roberts, and sister, Norma Thomlinson.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour. Afterwards, everyone is invited to go to First United Methodist Church for light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for the local Relay for Life fund.
