Police responding to a report of road rage early Wednesday north of the Jonesville exit on Interstate 65 wound up arresting two people for four drug charges including dealing in methamphetamine.
The pair, Bobby Alan Poindexter, 39, of Palmyra and Amy Yvonne Sullivan, 38, of Columbus, also face charges of dealing in marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, while Poindexter faces separate charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and driving while suspended with a prior unrelated conviction.
The incident that led to their arrests began about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when Officer Mark D. Holt with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department was sent to the area to look for a Honda passenger car because the driver of that vehicle had reportedly been slamming on his brakes in front of semitrailers almost causing several wrecks, Holt said in his report.

The incident of road rage had been reported in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the 47-mile-marker, and Holt said he was able to locate and try to stop the vehicle near the 56-mile-marker.
The driver, however, refused to stop and during the ensuing pursuit, the occupants of the Honda began throwing items out the passenger window, Holt said.
The vehicle was stopped near the 58-mile marker, and Holt said he found a bag of marijuana while arresting Poindexter, who had to be subdued as Holt tried to put handcuffs on him. After arresting Sullivan, state Trooper Korry Clark arrived and watched the pair as Holt went to search for the items Poindexter and Sullivan said had blown out the window during the pursuit, Holt said.
During that search, Holt said he found a bag of methamphetamine weighing 44 grams. Police also found items related to the distribution of drugs including 120 clear sandwich bags and digital scales and four grams of marijuana inside the car.
Both Poindexter and Sullivan were being held Sunday in the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown without bond, pending initial court hearings.
The dealing in methamphetamine charge is a Level 2 felony and is punishable by 10 to 30 years in prison upon conviction.
