A Brownstown Central High School senior recently was named 2016 December Youth of the Month by the Brownstown Exchange Club.

Makenzie Bennett was introduced during a club meeting by club member and committee chairman Kevin Gwin. She is the daughter of Ed and Sheila Bennett.

Bennett was DECA vice president (2015-16), a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Brownstown Teen Tutors and Braves Against Drugs Club and a national finalist in Science Olympiad. She also is a Microsoft Office specialist and was a Richard G. Lugar Symposium nominee.

She is a member of the Braves tennis team and was named the most improved player in 2016. She also has participated in several high school musicals, including “Annie” (2013-14) and “Cinderella” (2014-15).

Bennett thanked the club for the award and said she plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington. She plans to major in biochemistry and practice anesthesiology.

The club selects six youths of the month from October through March each school year and then picks a youth of the year.
