Indiana Department of Transportation personnel recently met with contractor representatives, consulting engineers and Seymour officials at INDOT district offices to launch a $681,650 local public agency construction project.

That will involve rebuilding rebuild West Second Street in Seymour from 0.38 miles northeast of U.S. 50 to a terminus 100 feet south of Vehslage Road.

Milestone Constructors is charged with full-depth pavement replacement, installation of new storm and sanitary sewer lines and construction of sidewalks with curbs and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps.

The Columbus contractor plans to begin operations in early April. A street closure is tentatively scheduled for May 3.

The city of Seymour, the LPA sponsor, will contribute 20 percent of the project costs. The Federal Highway Administration is funding 80 percent.

INDOT administers the FHA funding and provides oversight to assure compliance with federal standards.

GAI Consultants provided the engineering plans and will be responsible for day-to-day construction supervision.

West Second Street has a traffic count of 2,330 vehicles per day.
