Philip Newberry, 64, of rural Crothersville, passed away at 8:02 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born March 31, 1952, in Scottsburg, he was the son of Raymond Newberry, who survives in Seymour, and Vivian Floyd Newberry, who preceded Phil in death July 27, 2016. On Aug. 16, 1975, in Tampico, he married Patricia A. Gambrel Newberry, who survives in rural Crothersville.

Phil graduated from Crothersville High School in 1970. He retired from Force Construction in 2014, and he also worked at American Can in Austin. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, hunting and being active with his grandchildren.

Other survivors include his two sons, Jay (Angie) Newberry of Tampico and Kyle (Glenna) Newberry of rural Crothersville; five grandchildren, Brady, Makenna, London, Aspen and Reece Newberry; a brother, Tracy (Carol) Newberry of Dudleytown; and two brothers-in-law, Mike (Ann) Gambrel and Ron Gambrel, both of rural Crothersville.

His nephew, Chris Gambrel, will conduct the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville. Burial will follow at Russell Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
