PARIS CROSSING

James R. Jeffries, 97, of Paris Crossing, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Born Jan. 3, 1920, in Horse Cave, Kentucky, he was the son of Ed Jeffries and Bessie Logsdon Jeffries. On Nov. 30, 1939, he married Mary Mitchell Jeffries, who passed away Sept. 15, 2004.

James worked in the steel mills in Gary and also retired from Hardy Lake on Dec. 1, 1986. He was a veteran serving in Italy with the 87th Mountain Division during World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda (Reed) Johnson of Paris Crossing; his son, Tom (Robin) Jeffries of Commiskey; four grandchildren, Jeff (Shirley) Johnson of Paris Crossing, Brian (Jodie) Johnson and Chris (Malena) Jeffries, all of Scottsburg, and Bryan Ditolvo of Skagway, Alaska; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jeffrey, Victoria, Lillian, Mikyla, Trenton, Cameron and Lauren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Addy, Emory, Bella, Elaina, Henry, Carter and Corbin.

Cremation was chosen with a private graveside service at Marion Baptist Church Cemetery in Commiskey with the Rev. Damon Marling officiating.
