COLUMBUS, Ind. — Cummins Inc. reported today fourth-quarter and full-year revenues for 2016 that were down from the same periods in 2015.

Fourth-quarter revenues of $4.5 billion decreased 6 percent. The Columbus-based diesel engine maker said in a news release that the drop largely reflected lower commercial truck production in North America and weak global demand for industrial engines and power generation equipment.

Revenues for the full year 2016 were $17.5 billion, 8 percent lower than 2015. Revenues in North America decreased 12 percent and international sales decreased 2 percent mainly due to foreign currency movements, the Fortune 200 company said.

Based on the current forecast, Cummins is projecting full-year 2017 revenues to be flat to down 5 percent because of difficult markets. The company added that the first quarter is expected to be the low point of the year.
