Bettie Jean Noblitt, 89, of Seymour passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born June 3, 1927, in LaPorte County, she was the daughter of Patrick and Carrie Shelton Griffin, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 2, 1950, in Vallonia, Bettie married Richard J. Noblitt, who survives.

Bettie graduated from Vallonia High School and attended business college. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, White Creek, where she taught vacation Bible school through the years.

Bettie worked for 15 years at Indiana Telephone Co. in the billing department. She then went to Emerson School and Seymour High School, working as a cook before retiring in 1994 after 19 years of service. Bettie loved to attend all the kid’s school functions and games. She loved cooking for family gatherings and working in her garden.

Other survivors include a son, Dale Noblitt; three grandchildren, Chris (Jessica) Noblitt, Natasha (Joe) Duran and Richard T. Noblitt; four great-grandchildren, Jayzlynn Noblitt, Bryson Noblitt, Brayden Noblitt and Ava Duran; and a sister-in-law, Levina Griffin.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Griffin and Jack Griffin; and two sisters, Frances Reeves and Helen Macleod.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Justin Whitmore officiating. Private inurnment will be Monday at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the chapel.
