State District 65 Rep. Chris May, R-Bedford, recently was selected to serve on the House Committee on Local Government.

He also named to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Statutory Committee on Interstate and International Cooperation.

“I will be relying on my background as a former county commissioner to bring a fresh perspective to issues facing local governments across Indiana,” May said in a news release. “The committee process is an integral part of the General Assembly’s work, and I’m excited to get started.”

District 65 includes Salt Creek and Pershing townships in Jackson County.

The district also spans all of Brown County, most of Lawrence County and parts of Monroe and Johnson counties.

Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. On Jan. 4, House lawmakers will convene at 1:30 p.m. in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2017 legislative session.

Standing committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, may be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas.
