Charles Edward Conrad Sr., 82, of Brownstown passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown.

Born Aug. 22, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of Charlie and Mildred Edwards Conrad, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 23, 1955, he married Ethel Burnett, who survives in Brownstown.

Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving three years active and seven years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired as an Indiana State Police officer after 30 years of service. He was a member of Washington Lodge No. 13 Free and Accepted Masons of Brownstown, American Legion Post 89 in Seymour and Community Church of Brownstown.

Others survivors include three sons, Chuck Conrad of Vallonia, Donald (Dotti) Conrad of Brownstown and Matthew Conrad of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Leslie (William) Holder, Rachel (D.J.) Rouse, Jade Conrad and Caitlin Conrad; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Holder, Charlotte Holder and Henry Rouse. Also surviving are Stan, Pam, Katie, Adam and Faith Hillenbrand, who Ethel and Charles have always considered their grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Conrad; and a brother, Walter Conrad.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc. in Brownstown with Terry Fordice officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Washington Lodge No. 13 Free and Accepted Masons will conduct a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
