Rick Lee Self, 63, of Seymour passed away at 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at his home after a four-year battle with cancer.

Born Sep. 12, 1953, in Vincennes, he was the son of Wayne A. Self, who preceded him in death, and Barbara Kirk Self, who survives. On Jan. 26, 1974, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour, he married Rhonda Bruner, who survives.

Rick was a member of the 1972 graduating class of Seymour High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a professional truck driver for most of his life for Circle K and Klemm Transportation, where he hauled petroleum. He enjoyed horseback riding, riding his Harley and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was very crafty and could build anything.

Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by three children, Brandi (Brad) Thompson, Nicki (Aaron) Merideth and Ryan (Amanda Clemenz) Self; five grandchildren, Bailee Thompson, Blaine Thompson, Rylee Merideth, Allison Merideth and Gracie Self; three brothers, Doug Self, Tim Self and Chuck Self; a sister, Lisa Pray; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Self.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel in Seymour with the Rev. Tom Judd officiating. Burial will follow at Kurtz Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
