Calvin Bruce “Bud” Simpson, 90, of Seymour, passed away, at 6:17 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at his grandson’s home in Seymour.

Born March 18, 1926, in Racine, Ohio, he was the son of James Edward and Gretta Howell Simpson, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 9, 1946, he married Gladys Folden, who preceded him in death. He married Betsy Simpson, who also preceded him in death.

He graduated from Racine High School in 1943 and immediately went to work on a riverboat at the age of 17. Working for Tommy Campbell Co. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he studied and worked his way up to pilot and then became a captain working until his retirement from the Ohio River Co. He was a beloved brother. He joined the Racine Baptist Church at a young age and was a lifelong Christian. He also was a prominent business man and owned the Barne-Simpson Insurance, several drive-ins, restaurants and steakhouses in two states. He lived many of his retired years in Florida and recently returned to Seymour.

Survivors include his grandsons, Bruce Simpson and Shane Simpson, both of Seymour, Todd Sheets, of Pomeroy, Ohio, and Shawn Christian of Seymour; daughter-in-law, Brenda Simpson of Seymour; two sisters, Lillian (Bill) Hayman and Mary Louise (Ernest) Shuler, and a sister-in-law, Shirley (Gerald) Simpson, all of Racine; and seven nephews and five nieces.

Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Bud, and a brother, Gerald Gene “Smoke” Simpson.

The funeral service will be at 1 pm Friday at Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Racine, with Pastor Bill Marshall officiating. Interment will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday.
