Schneck opens new practices to increase services

Schneck Medical Center has opened two new, local practices to better serve patients with lung diseases and urology conditions.

Schneck Pulmonology, an outpatient office treating people with lung diseases and other chronic respiratory conditions, is located in Suite 230 in the Jackson Medical Building at 225 S. Pine St. in Seymour.

The hospital also has partnered with urologist Ryan Malone to open First Urology of Schneck Medical Center to diagnose and treat urinary tract problems including issues with the kidneys and bladder. The office is on the third floor of the Schneck Rehabilitation Center at 100 N. Walnut St.

Both practices are a targeted effort to expand services and grow the hospital to meet patient and community needs and recruit specialized physicians to the area, hospital officials said.

By having specialists practicing in Seymour, patients do not have to travel long distances to receive treatment and care.

Late last month, Schneck announced it had acquired Jackson Park Physicians and Urgent Care of Seymour and Brownstown Family Medicine.

The pulmonary practice is under the direction of David Wilson, M.D. and offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for patients with all varieties of lung disease, such as cancer, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, cystic fibrosis and others.

Dr. Wilson is a national leader in navigational bronchoscopy, a service that combines electromagnetic navigation with three-dimensional CT imaging for a more accurate diagnosis of lung cancer.

“It’s a minimally-invasive procedure and enables us to biopsy and treat tumors in distant regions of the lungs not accessible with standard bronchoscopy,” Wilson said.

He also specializes in photodynamic therapy or the use of photo-sensitive light to kill cancer cells to relieve the symptoms of lung cancer and help patients breathe better.

“Photodynamic therapy doesn’t cause extensive damage to surrounding tissue and can extend and promote a better quality of life for the patient,” Wilson said.

The urology center also works closely with Schneck’s cancer center to treat renal, bladder and prostate and testicular cancers and offers specialized urology care including minimally invasive robotic surgical procedures.

Besides Dr. Malone, First Urology of Schneck also employs Dr. Ganesh Kartha and Charity Welch, nurse practitioner.

The center offers evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of conditions impacting the urinary tract such as incontinence, kidney and bladder stones, chronic urinary tract infections and other conditions.
