The postseason came to an end for the Brownstown Central senior duo of Sy Zickler and Sam Hoff on Saturday.

In the Bedford North Lawrence individual regional, the No. 1 doubles team fell to the undefeated North Posey tandem of Dylan Brown and Wes Voegel 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.

“They had every shot,” Brownstown Central coach Scott Dittmer said of North Posey. “We would hit good shots and they would get them right back. We hadn’t seen that much consistency all year.”

After the Vikings broke Zickler’s serve in the opening game, the Braves answered by winning on Brown’s serve.

The Vikings then won the next three games to go up 4-1.

After a pair of breaks, the Braves narrowed the deficit to 5-4 on a service hold by Zickler.

Despite their best efforts, the Braves couldn’t make the comeback in the first set as they fell 6-4.

Brownstown Central played well at the net in the opening set, managing 12 untouched winners.

The Viking took a 4-1 lead in the second set, but once again the Braves responded.

After breaking Voegel, Zickler put away a pair of shots at the net — to ensure Hoff’s serves held — to make it 4-3.

Down 5-3, the Braves won the next two games to tie it at 5-5.

The Vikings put the match away by breaking Hoff and dominating the net in the final game.

“We made some strategy adjustments late in the first set and also in the second set,” Dittmer siad. “The guys from North Posey just had an answer for everything. We started attacking their serves more and they responded by putting more on their first serves. When we would jump on them, they kicked it up a notch and pushed us back.”

Floyd Central’s Noah Neuhauser and Reed Plunkett defeated Voegel and Brown 6-4, 6-0 to advance to state in the later match.

Zickler finished his career with the most career wins in program history with 70.
