An hour-long search Friday night for a Ewing man suffering from a medical condition ended when he was found lying in a field about a mile and half west of town.
The search for 47-year-old Scott Fleck involved officers from several police and fire departments, according to a news release from Brownstown Officer Tom Wright.
It began at 8 p.m. when Fleck’s wife, Tammy Fleck, called 911 to report her husband was having a seizure and that he can walk for miles before collapsing.
Tammy said she was running after her husband and had last seen him about a quarter mile west of Ewing before he turned north into a cornfield and disappeared.
Wright said he initially asked dispatchers to send an ambulance and Brownstown firefighters to help find Fleck. Other firefighters along with a conservation officer with night-vision equipment and PHI helicopter from Seymour also joined the search for Fleck.
The search eventually involved firefighters and others on all-terrain vehicles and in 4-wheelers. Officers with Jackson County Sheriff’s Department also began patrolling county roads in the area.
Shortly after the PHI helicopter landed to pickup a firefighter with thermal imaging equipment, police received information a man was lying in a field north of the intersection of Base Road and County Road 75N. That was about a mile and a half north of the original search area, Wright said.
Fleck was found and treated by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. He was later transferred to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was later released.
Firefighters from Carr and Driftwood townships also assisted.
