A Seymour man returning home from work Wednesday afternoon found his parents dead of gunshot wounds, police said.

Those investigating the death of Jason K. Jackson, 42, and Brandi Jo Jackson, 42, said there’s no doubt the two died of a murder-suicide, although they’re not yet ready to release information about who pulled the trigger.

Sheriff Mike Carothers said police just want to be sure before releasing that information, and he believes autopsies scheduled for this morning in Seymour will confirm the answer.

Detective Bob Lucas, who is leading the investigation, said the evidence includes a gun, shell casings and notes from the shooter.

Other evidence, including the trajectory of the bullets, also points to the shooter and there is no evidence anyone else was involved, he said.

The Jacksons’ son, Damian Jackson, found them dead of gunshot wounds after he returned from work to the home he shared with them at 5990 Spring Meadow Lane in the Martha Vineyard subdivision northeast of Seymour. He called 911 at 4:29 p.m.

Lucas said he believes the shootings occurred sometime around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday after Damian Jackson left for work.

He also said he believes the autopsies, to be conducted by Dr. Thomas Sozio, a forensic pathologist from Indianapolis, will help confirm the times of death. Officers canvassed the area around the Jacksons’ home and no one reported hearing anything, he said.

There were no records police had ever been called to the house in the past for any domestic issues, Lucas said.

The couple, who were married in 1992, purchased the house in January 2016. They had previously lived in Brownstown.
